Open every day of the year
We're open every day of the year. During daylight savings time (October through to March) we're open from 10.00AM till 6.00PM every day. Every other time of the year we're open from 10.00AM till 5.00PM. If you know you'll be coming later than these times then just call us on 0417 352 924 and we'll make sure we're there.
We're on the way to Phillip Island. To get to The Gurdies Winery you turn off the Bass Highway into St Helier Road. St Helier Road is 10km past the Bass and South Gippsland Highway junction, a few kilometres past the GMH proving grounds. We are only 2km up the hill along a sealed road.
Or you can see us directly by clicking on Australian Wine Region Maps Heading towards Phillip Island you'll see the signs on the left hand side.
There is plenty of room for even the largest coaches you may have. We have all sealed access from the car park to the tasting area. So your people will be coming back on board with clean feet, not covered in mud. Fantastic views out over Westernport Bay offering great photo opportunities in the vines and from the winery
These are just a few pictures from our winery. No picture ever does justice to a wonderful view. As you can well imagine, people get very creative when presented with a beautiful scene. The one thing that EVERYONE does when they come onto the property is stop and say; 'Wow, what a view'. If we don't have THE BEST view of any winery in the country, then we have to be coming a very close second. The picnic tables are available for use every day, all day. We put out chairs on the concrete when the weather permits. We have a very large tasting area that can comfortably accommodate 100 people in case it rains. To fully appreciate our view and facilities, you will have to come down and see us in person.
We do not charge any tasting fees on any of our wines. We find a typical tour group has a wide variety of interest and knowledge of wines. Some people will head straight for the picnic tables and others will head straight for the bar. We ask the tour leader if they've got time to look at the vines before trying the wines. Some say yes, some say no. If you have time in your tour we spend some time with the vines first. We give a short 10 minute talk to explain how the vines are grown, pruned and harvested. This gives people some background information not only on the vines but on Australian growing seasons as well. In a typical group some of the people will head straight for the picnic tables and ignore the wines while others are keenly interested. Over the years we've found that people are happiest to taste around 3 wines and 3 fortified wines. Any more than this and people start to lose interest and the tour drags out. Any less and people start asking for more. Along with our regular wines we have some speciality items that can only purchased at the winery. They've proved very popular with all groups. We have penguin shaped bottles filled with a Reserve Port. We have developed this bottle and it is unique to The Gurdies Winery. Other interesting bottles are the Australia shape and the grape bottle. Filled with Reserve Port they make great mementos.
We have fortified wines in beautiful half bottles. These include a reserve Port, Muscat, Malmsey and a magnificent white port we call Golden Dessert. People love the sweet, strong taste and the lovely bottles.
We also offer a special discount to tour groups on most items. And we make sure to look after each tour guide and driver.
What more can I possibly say about this other than yes, the toilets are always clean and stocked with all supplies.
A friendly, playful Golden Labrador called Jade lives at the winery. She greets all visitors with a wagging tail and a smile and people love her.

We are the oldest established winery in the south Gippsland region. You can be sure in any dealing with us that we have been here for a fair while and we intend to be here for a fair while yet. 20 years is the magic number when the vines start developing very complex fruit flavours. This is showing up in our wines.
Legend has it that The Gurdies was named after disaster struck a travelling circus. On the journey out to Phillip Island, the carousel (or Hurdy Gurdy as it was then called) rolled into the creek. Bad weather foiled all rescue attempts and the Hurdy Gurdy became a semi-permanent fixture. The creek was named Hurdy Gurdy Creek and the area behind it, The Gurdies. The area was logged during the 1800's and the timber shipped via sea to Melbourne and further afield. Then came The Gurdies sheep station that covered 16,000 acres in the area. The early 1900's saw the area split up into smaller blocks used mostly for dairying. For any questions on anything here, please click here
